Todesstreifen/ Schlesischer Busch
Graphite drawing on photo-laserprint , 29,7 x 21 cm, 2015
There’s a promenade and a small park close to my home. The border between East- and West-Berlin used to be there. Today people spend their free time there, go for a walk, make music, have drinks and meet friends. The two different faces of this area as a former border, carrying tragic and destructive memories, but today as a place that people enjoy, made me interested to sense traces of the past there. Some are still present, many have gone.
I took photos of the whole area. Then I continued to draw on prints of these photos. That opened up the surface of the photos like a curtain, showing rifts, abyss or deformations and movements which developed during the process of drawing.
